MEET THE ARTIST
Gaurav Shrestha

ECS - August, 2008

The painting of a mountain as seen from afar looked delightful. In the subconscious it seemed a labor that did not need much creativity–any painter could do it. But when gazed at from a short distance, the amount of imagination it took to compose the painting, the painstaking process to organize the bits and pieces of paper to form the mountain, and the ingenuity of thorough color combination and shades made this artist’s collage painting an awesome delight. They stand apart from the rest at an art exhibition.

Rajdhani - June 7, 2008

Annapurna Post - June 6, 2008

Collage of angst and awe
The Kathmandu Post/City Post - June 2, 2008

His technique is uncanny, his concepts are peculiar, his creations are prismatic; Gaurav Shrestha's paintings are surreally pragmatic. The colorful collages of Shrestha conjoin life's fictional dispositions and delimitations with an abstractly realistic depiction.

Nepali Patra,14 March 2008

more>>

I'm impressed by his works. He's beautifully chosen and used oil colors on cardboards. The paintings are simple and the colors soft and eye-soothing. The interesting part is that he's used cardboard as his canvas. The collage is fantastic! I've liked his new experiment. The color composition is also very good.

It takes a jeweler's worth to find the hidden shine in an uncut diamond. In the same manner, it takes an artist's eye to turn the clutter of the everyday mundane into brilliant pieces of art. I have found this young artist Gaurav Shrestha as a profound, still a restless enthusiast towards artistic creativity. Since art-work is always judged by the standard of clarity of expression and newness of creativity, regardless of media and materials selected for this. Gaurav has discovered COLLAGE and colour on packing board to be the best and the simple-most way for moulding the inner visions into visual forms. Collage for him is no more a pas-time pleasure of amateur artists, as used to be taken. With this technique he has interestingly created unique figurative forms maintaining harmony, balance, depth, occasionally rendering mosaic illusions. read more>>
